Established in January 2002 with the approval of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and the Beijing Municipal People's Government, the Beijing Transport Institute (BTI) is a Category II public institution. It aims to pool Beijing's research strength and integrate intellectual resources from all sides to systematically study transport issues.
BTI is responsible for studying Beijing's strategies, policies and plans for urban transport development; follow?ing up and studying hot issues and bottleneck problems of urban transport; organizing and coordinating study efforts of transport research institutes, synthesizing research findings, and submitting implementation measures and plans to the government; gathering and releasing urban transport information, and writing annual reports for urban transport development; providing basis for the municipal government to make decisions on major issues of urban transport development; studying strategies, plans and policies for energy conservation and emission reduction in the transport industry; setting energy conservation and emission reduction standards for Beijing's transport industry; undertaking the division of targets and responsibilities of energy conservation and emission reduction in Beijing's transport industry, energy conservation and emission reduction monitoring, statistics, detection and evaluation; as well as related work such as the policy publicity, technology extension, exchanges and cooperation of energy conservation and emission reduction in Beijing's transport industry.
BTI has established the Beijing Municipal Key Laboratory of Urban Transport Operation Simulation and Decision Support, the Beijing Municipal Key Laboratory of Urban Transport Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Detection and Evaluation, the Beijing International Technology Cooperation Base for Urban Transport, the National Energy Measurement Center (Urban Transport) and a postdoctoral workstation.
BTI was certified by ISO 9001 in 2006. Over the years, guided by the concept of "driving technology by research and supporting decision making by technology", it has focused on key points, solved thorny problems, provided high-quality services for governmental transport decision making, and offered strong technical support for building a safe, convenient, efficient, green and economical modern integrated transport system.
